Arm Lift

Brachioplasty Facts

What is an Arm Lift?

Arm Lift or Brachioplasty is a procedure designed to reshape the underside of the upper arm, extending from the armpit to the elbow. This surgical intervention aims to eliminate excess skin and fat and delivers a more sculpted and harmonious arm contour.

The skin of the upper arms is prone to sagging due to factors such as aging, significant weight loss, or lymphedema. While exercise can enhance muscle tone in the upper arm, it cannot address loose skin lacking elasticity.

Ideal candidate for Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty is suitable for candidates in the following cases:

It may also be right for people facing the following issues with excess skin in and around the arms:

Procedure for Arm Lift

In this procedure, our aesthetic surgeon Dr. Salil Bharadwaj will excise excess tissue from beneath the upper arm. The surgeon makes an incision on the inner or posterior aspect of the arm to access the area. Excessive folds of skin and fat are excised, and the remaining tissue is meticulously sutured to achieve a more streamlined contour.

This process may also enhance muscle tone in the upper arm. Additionally, the surgeon may opt to remove surplus tissue from the chest area and perform liposuction to further refine the arm’s appearance during the same surgical session.

Recovery

Following your brachioplasty surgery, bandages are applied to safeguard the incision site during the healing process. You’ll be provided with a snug-fitting sleeve, known as a compression garment, to reduce swelling. In some cases, small tubes may be inserted beneath the skin to facilitate drainage of excess fluid.

Furthermore, arm lift recovery may also entail:

Important to note

An arm lift primarily addresses loose, drooping skin. If your goal is to achieve a more defined appearance and you don’t have saggy skin, you may need only liposuction to be performed on your arms. Liposuction targets stubborn fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise, and it can be performed concurrently with brachioplasty.

It’s important to note that brachioplasty does not prevent the upper arms from sagging in the event of significant weight fluctuations. Therefore, maintaining a healthy weight before and after the procedure is vital to achieving optimal results.
