- Breast Augmentation in Bahrain

Breast Augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase breast volume and enhance its shape. Breast Augmentation is colloquially called a ‘Boob job’ and in medical terms an ‘Augmentation mammoplasty.’
Breast augmentation surgery typically involves implant placement or fat transfer to enhance breast volume and shape. The surgery is most commonly performed through a small incision in the inframammary fold beneath the breast.
However, all types of breast augmentation are explained below for a clearer understanding.
Implants-based breast augmentation in Bahrain:
Breast implants are prostheses that are inserted to enhance and enlarge breast size and shape. Dr. Salil Bharadwaj, who is one of the top breast augmentation surgeons in Bahrain, prefers to use ergonomic silicone implants because they adapt to gravity and different positions, creating a natural look and feel.
Aim of breast reduction
The procedure reduces breast size and changes their shape by removing excess breast tissue and skin. Additionally, breast reduction can also include reducing the size of the areola.
Breast augmentation via fat transfer
Fat transfer, or autologous fat grafting, is an alternative method to increase breast volume by using unwanted body fat. This procedure involves liposuction to remove fat cells from different areas of the body and transfer them to the breasts.
Natural breast augmentation via fat transfer is ideal for women who want fuller breasts without implants. It is also common for breast reconstruction following mastectomy for correcting genetic deformities or improving the appearance of underdeveloped or tuberous breasts.
Hybrid breast augmentation in Bahrain:
Hybrid breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that combines the use of breast implants and fat transfer to achieve a fuller, more natural-looking breast appearance. During the procedure, the surgeon first harvests fat from another area of the patient’s body, such as the abdomen or thighs, using liposuction.
Then the harvested fat is purified and injected into the breasts, along with breast implants, to enhance volume and shape. This technique is often used for patients who desire a more subtle or natural-looking augmentation.

Suitable candidate for breast augmentation:
Candidates for breast augmentation typically have one or more of the following characteristics:
- You have realistic expectations
- Your breasts are fully developed
- You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too small
- You are dissatisfied with your breasts losing shape and volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or with aging
- You are unhappy with the upper part of your breast appearing "empty"
- Your breasts are asymmetrical
- One or both breasts failed to develop normally or have an elongated shape
Breast examination- preoperative planning
During the examination, Dr. Salil will consider your current breast size, shape, and nipple/areola position. Then, accurate measurements are taken, and external breast implant sizers are used to help determine the most suitable size.
Dr. Salil will also explain and decide on the most appropriate implant types and the positioning of the implant in relation to the patient’s chest muscle (pectoralis major). The implant may be placed above the muscle, referred to as sub-glandular (behind the breast gland), or below the muscle referred to as sub-muscular or dual plane (the implant lies partially below the muscle and lower pole behind the breast gland).
Specialized imaging may also be used to provide further details on the potential end results. Ultimately, you will decide the final implant size and placement with surgical advice provided by Dr. Salil and the sizing process.
On the day of surgery
The Breast Augmentation procedure is done under anesthesia. Breast augmentation surgery, when done as an isolated procedure, is a day care surgery allowing patients to go home on the same day as the surgery.
To insert the breast implant, your plastic surgeon will make a single cut (incision) in one of three places, as decided preoperatively:
- The crease under your breast (inframammary)
- Under your arm (axillary)
- Around your nipple (peri areolar)
After making an incision, the surgeon will separate your breast tissue from the muscles and connective tissue of your chest. This creates a pocket either behind or in front of the outermost muscle of the chest wall (pectoral muscle). The surgeon will insert the implant into this pocket and center it behind your nipple.
Recovery after breast augmentation
As each patient is unique, so is their recovery. Here’s an approximate timeline of the recovery process.
Following surgery, you may feel sleepy and tired due to the effects of general anesthesia. You may feel some pain and numbness in your breasts once the anesthesia wears off. Since you cannot drive, it is advised to arrange with a friend or family member to assist you.
For the next few days, you may experience discomfort and pressure in your chest region. Follow your surgeon’s instructions and take medication as prescribed to help you manage your discomfort.
Some patients may need to rest, while others may engage in light activities such as walking or preparing simple meals at home. Lymphatic drainage massages may also be recommended at this point to minimize swelling and hasten recovery.
In the coming weeks after your surgery, it is important to take things easy and avoid strenuous activities, especially those involving your arms and chest. During this time, the implants begin to settle into place.
Wear your support garment (a bra or elastic band, called a bandeau) around the clock as instructed by your plastic surgeon till four weeks after your surgery.
You can return to the gym after two weeks, starting with light exercises.
After four weeks, you may begin doing heavy exercises. If your recovery is on track, you can wear new bras, including those with underwire options, and engage in intimate breast activities. After a month, you will be entirely healed and prepared to begin your “new life.”

Results
While a breast augmentation yields larger breasts right away, the final results may take a few weeks as the swelling subsides, and the skin stretches. Incision lines may take several months to fade.
